Apple's Leopard

Apple’s sixth major upgrade to Mac OS X since the desktop operating system debuted in 2001, Leopard, will go on sale on 26th Oct for USD129. With more than 300 new features offered in Leopard, it is a temptation that existing MAC users find it hard to resist.

Get a closer look at the 8 most important (visible) features:-

1. New Desktop - The new desktop has a semitransparent menu bar and a reflective 3D Dock that perfectly frame your desktop picture. On the Dock, you will find a new feature, “Stacks“, that help you to organize your desktop neatly. One click and the stack springs open, revealing items in an elegant arc or an at-a-glance grid. It works with folders and downloads.

  • Amazon starts MP3 store

    Amazon MP3

Apple may have a problem here.. Amazon launches MP3 store which is set to steal iTunes’s thunder. Two major reasons why this is likely to happen

    1. Songs in Amazon are priced at a low 89 cents (10% cheaper than iTunes)
    2. They are DRM free

    So what is DRM?

DRM is an acronym for Digital Rights Management, a broad term used to describe a number of techniques for restricting the free use and transfer of digital content. DRM is used in a number of media, but is most commonly found in video and music files.

  • Eneloop

Recently, I bought a pack of 2 AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries to power my wireless mouse. As any wireless optical mouse user knows, batteries don’t last too long in mice — 3 months if you’re a lightweight, 1 1/2 months if you spend a lot of time on your computer. Therefore, buying a rechargeable battery seems to be a good investment as it has the advantage of being more cost-efficient over the long term.

So, what I like about Eneloop?

    1. Immediate Use
You can use it right after you unwrap the batteries.
    2. Low self discharge
Once charges, eneloop will lose only about 15% of their charge after a year of non-use.

      Eneloop

    3. Can be charged 10 100 1000 times!
The retail price for a pack of 2 AA alkaline batteries and a pack of 2 AA Eneloop rechargeable batteries is RM 6 and RM 38 respectively. So, assuming that the Eneloop batteries can last only a quarter of what Sanyo claims (250 times) , I save RM 1462 (RM 6 x 250 - RM 38). :D

  • Google Logo

To stop users from uploading copyrighted video without the permission of the owners, Google took a reactive step by launching YouTube Video Identification.

    According to Google:-

Video Identification is the next step in a long list of content policies and tools that we have provided copyright owners so that they can more easily identify their content and manage how it is made available on YouTube.

Refering to downloadsquad, in order for this to work, the owner of the copyrighted video will have to upload a copy to YouTube, and then Google’s machines go to work analyzing that file and making sure that nobody else has uploaded an exact duplicate.
