How to improve page rank of websites is one question that every online marketer wants to find an answer to. Internet marketing companies and webmasters are leaving no stone unturned to see their websites get a higher Page Rank or PR. It is not unusual to find webmasters working overtime to find the key to getting a high PR within a short period of time. So what’s the importance on Page Rank all about?
Page Rank or PR is a link analysis algorithm that is used by the popular search engine Google for finding out the relevance of a website with regards to its content. According to Google:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.
The importance of a webpage is defined by the page rank awarded by the search engines at regular intervals (page rank ranges from 0 to 10). The highest page rank that a webpage can attain is 10 and this is updated at least once a month. Better page rank means more traffic and more traffic equals more revenue.
The primary thing that one needs to consider while trying to improve their page ranking is getting and search engine optimized website with relevant content. Google and their likes love the websites that have a good design, simple coding and easily loads. Let us look at some of the most popular and trusted methods to increase the page rank:
Backlinks are the links that point to your site and is a vital determinant of the page rank. It is better to create as many backlinks as possible because the higher number of times the Page Rank software encounters your website the better would be your chances to top the list. But there is a twist in the
story! People often make the mistake of creating backlinks through irrelevant and low quality sites – this way the PR is not going to improve. You would have to take into consideration the website that creates the backlink and you also need to create backlinks from those sites that are relevant to your website.
This is another vital determinant of the PR – updating content on a regular basis enhances the page rank. You cannot expect search engines to give you a high PR with year old content – you need to make changes and add fresh content.
It is very important that you add only quality content to your website with all the targeted keywords embedded into it.
This is a technique where you link the content of one page of your website with another. For instance, if you are written something on iPad then it is better to link the same with another article that talks about useful iPad applications.
Now, the power of publicity is not unknown to us and we are quite aware that if anything manages to get proper publicity then it is just a matter of few days before that becomes the hottest object in the market. Similarly, you need to publicize your website and tell everyone and anyone you meet online to visit your website.

Very interesting post, SEO can be very time consuming and confusing at times especially if you are new to it, so your tips for the most popular methods to increase the page rank will be especially helpful. To publicize any website I would suggest using some of the free press release sites, these provide a fast, free and efficient way of getting your promotion out there and can be useful in generating traffic and interest.
I am not happy with my PR.. I update almost daily, getting around 1500 page views daily but still PR1 only. Only thing I can guess missing is lots of backlink + a new site.
This is an outstanding write-up, and I can agree with what was written here. I will be back to check out the comments soon. Thank you so much for your blog
Great job you done. This post was highly informative about google page rank. This post very much useful for me. Way of explanation is also simply superb.
Instead of entering your URL into your browser, search Google for your site. Google is more apt to improve the ranking of a site that users seek and visit than one that gets no traffic from Google.
Good tip!
it seems like no matter what i do, i can’t even get indexed with google… =(
I wonder how regular the content updates should be to maintain a PR of 2-3… anybody have any insights?
Nice tips .But as my suggestion Quality backlinks are the most important to get High PR
Thanks for your precious information. Good tip
Wonderful post. Backlinks are very important when it comes to SEO. Sure, you could have the perfect keywords – but in order to pass up your competition then strong backlinks are needed.
One part I see most people leaving out is checking to see if a website you use to create a backlink has Dofollow or not. Otherwise, you would just be wasting your time..
I’ve been doing some keyword research and also providing good tips on SEO as well.
If you want you can visit my blog Traffic Submission SEO
Good tips but you didn’t mention one thing.Creating backlinks on high PR article submission directories like Ezine Articles an Go Articles. You can write there about your niche and get quality backlinks.
Google PR is something that is continuing to confuse me and will probably do so for quite some time. I think articles like these are of great help however at the end of the day trial and error by using techniques like the ones in your articles is probably what is going to get my PR up.
Great post, especially the interlinking technique is something that i wasnt aware of.
Also thanks to Sam for sharing the tip about searching for your website instead of entering the url. Is this a proven techniques? It sounds logical but it’s the first time i heard about it.
Try to post something new and unique topics and grab some attention from people. You can drive people from Social Networking sites/Social Media Sites like Twitter, Facebook, Digg, Stumbleupon so that everyone would come to know about it. If they like the post they will start linking to it from their blogs.
Unique Post->Social Media->Traffic->Backlinks=Good PR
I implemented this and I’m glad to say that I’ve got what I’ve expected.
Hope this helps..
Please let me know what you think about this…
Michelle
Thanks, your post was very useful for me
Page rank of a site is not all about number of backlink rather one of the thing that Google consider while giving a site page rank. Yes you need to have backlink but that must be do follow link ,then only a search engine can follow the link into your site. Other factors are content of your site, how your site interact with user, a good but easy sitemap etc and getting pr from Google is tough but keeping and increasing that pr is tougher.
The most obvious solution will be to get as many incoming links as you can. Have each page linking to several other pages on your site (crosslinking). That should be especially helpful for balancing the page ranking across different pages of your site, and of course it should help your visitors to find related content on your site.
Google engineers have said that the pagerank is not as important but I think if it remains at the time to do better positioned.
You are right Backlinks are very important. But the real thing in backlinks is the no follow and do follow tags. If backlink is coming form no follow website then it is useless. So better search for a dofollow site
Good point about relevancy of backlinks! Sometimes people forget about this important factor
By the way, what is your assumption when would be the next PR update?
