On April 8, Apple unveiled plans for the biggest and most exciting iPhone software update yet. We have come to know about the enterprise features of the iPhone OS 4.0 but this is not a big feat as Apple has itself revealed the same for the general public. Some of the eye-catching features that we can expect to see in it are improved security, third party multitasking, folders, ibooks and management of mobile device.
Since users like us are more concerned about the mobile device management or MDM, so we are pretty excited about this feature. Trying to set up the hardware individually is a cumbersome task but Apple seems to have resolved the issue pretty nicely. iPhone MDM APIs are going to let the developers put in features like the remote wipes, policy compliance and wireless configuration (with updates) into the apps. The wireless app distribution allows the managers to install the same through the use of 3G and Wi- Fi.
Here is rundown on some of the latest features that the iPhone OS 4 come bundled with:
Now, we have been waiting for this long enough and finally it has arrived. There is an easy task switcher wherein double clicking on the home would get you to the list of apps running. You have to just select switch and done. Now, there are limitations in multitasking like VoIP, audio streaming and GPS apps. You can even suspend nav/VoIP/ non-music apps in the background.
Here with the multitasking, majority of the applications won’t be running but with the iPhone OS 4, you would be able to freeze all the applications. You would be able to restore all the applications in their last closed state.
Notifications have been localized! You can now send notifications between applications on your iPhone. The iPhone OS 4 does not only use the remote servers to send notifications but also the internal applications. What does this mean? Well, this means that if you move from one application to another, then you would get a pop up notification in your current application. This is one thing that I found to be really efficient in handling multiple applications in a single go.
There is one more feature that is certainly going to make you drool for the iPhone OS 4. Your applications can now request for a certain time bracket to complete a task and can also generate local notifications.
iBooks, the Apple’s e-book reader, is introduced in iPhone OS 4.0 which can be used to access Apple’s iBookstore to purchase e-books. Best of all, the e-books you owned can be shared between your iPhone and iPad.
Finally, folders has been added to iPhone 4.0 OS and you can drag and drop apps onto one another to createa folder. You can now hold up to 2160 apps on your iPhone, a significant big jump from its previous of 180.
Even after all these enhancements, there are a few who would still prefer playing with their Blackberry – now, there is no word from my end to the people who love getting stuck with something that has aged and lost shine! Time to move on guys and get something that the world is going crazy over!
Whenever you get some new functionality in iPhone OS 4.0 , it will start working on big plate farm.
Everyone has been begging for multi tasking and Apple finally delivers.
look forward to the new Apple product
