In the midst of the iPhones and all other tech savvy cell phones that seem to dominate the world at present Nokia has announced the launch of their brainchild, The Nokia N8. Armed with a bevy of features, the new Nokia N8 comes with an enviable specifications list. But it’s not only the specifications, Nokia N8 also introduces never seen before features not only on a Nokia phone but it’s the first device in the world to boast of a cell phone having Symbian^3 as its OS.

The Design

For the first time Nokia has used anodized aluminum in its design. This time their metal of choice was a bit more up market. The aluminum will give the phone a rich look while also it’ll reduce its weight, which for a phone as Nokia N8 is bound to be on the higher side. The phone looks sleek and sturdy, with curved sides and top and bottom, which gradually become narrow towards the edges. The top and bottom sides are completely flat and house all sorts of buttons and ports, from the 3.5mm headphone jack to the all-important HDMI-out.

The Display

The Nokia N8 has a 3.5″, 640 x 360 pixel, and capacitive touch screen. The AMOLED display is expected to provide good sunlight legibility, and contrast. Nokia N8 AMOLED feature just navigates smoothly with a single touch. The multitouch feature with pinch zoom is highly a welcoming factor. The display is capable of displaying up to 16.7 million colors and has a proximity sensor for automatically turning off when you bring it close to your face during a call. An ambient light sensor is also available for automatically adjusting the brightness level.

Camera

The strength of the Nokia N8 lies with its camera. The camera flaunts a 12-megapixel autofocus camera, with Xenon flash, which is a rarity in today’s camera phones. Also, a first for Nokia is the ability of the N8 to record HD videos, 1280 x 720 to be precise, at 25 frames per second.

Hardware

The Nokia N8 runs on an ARM 11 680 MHz processor and also has 3D Graphics HW accelerator. With a dedicated graphics accelerator, the N8 will be able to display better quality graphics while gaming or image and video playback. The N8 also comes with 256 MB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory and a micro SD slot so the memory can be expanded up to 32 GB.

Software and Connectivity

The Nokia N8 runs on Symbian^3, the first phone ever to flaunt this OS. It also provides data connectivity through EDGE, Wi-Fi, Micro USB, speaker phone, and HDMI output. Bluetooth v3.0 serves as a best portal for transferring photos. 3.5mm Audio jack provides exhilarating music experience.

Nokia N8 is a very important product for Nokia. It is at the moment the toughest competitor from the company amongst the hardcore phones such as iPhones and android ones. However it’ll be revealed only after quarter 3 of 2010 that how good is the Nokia N8. At present it is priced 370 Euros. So now the question is, after it is launched, what will you do with it?
