Wordpress 2.3.1 released!

Regular Wordpress users should know by now that Wordpress 2.3.1 was released 4 days ago. The news is listed on your Wordpress Dashboard as well as a short announcement (see below) bugging you on every page of your admin panel:

A new version of WordPress is available! Please update now.

This upgrade fixes over twenty bugs. Some of the notable fixes are:

  • Tagging support for Windows Live Writer
  • Fixes for a login bug that affected those with a Blog Address different than
    their WordPress Address
  • Faster taxonomy database queries, especially tag intersection queries
  • Link importer fixes

    1. New Desktop - The new desktop has a semitransparent menu bar and a reflective 3D Dock that perfectly frame your desktop picture. On the Dock, you will find a new feature, “Stacks“, that help you to organize your desktop neatly. One click and the stack springs open, revealing items in an elegant arc or an at-a-glance grid. It works with folders and downloads.

  • Amazon starts MP3 store

    Amazon MP3

    Apple may have a problem here.. Amazon launches MP3 store which is set to steal iTunes’s thunder. Two major reasons why this is likely to happen

    1. Songs in Amazon are priced at a low 89 cents (10% cheaper than iTunes)
    2. They are DRM free

    So what is DRM?

    DRM is an acronym for Digital Rights Management, a broad term used to describe a number of techniques for restricting the free use and transfer of digital content. DRM is used in a number of media, but is most commonly found in video and music files.

  • I just can’t help but to laugh out loud when I came upon this accessory for Iphone - Phonefingers. It is made to prevent fingerprints and smudges on your Iphone.. hahaha.. i laugh again. Anyway, I am not joking, it is for REAL. Check out the picture below:-

    To stop users from uploading copyrighted video without the permission of the owners, Google took a reactive step by launching YouTube Video Identification.

    According to Google:-

    Video Identification is the next step in a long list of content policies and tools that we have provided copyright owners so that they can more easily identify their content and manage how it is made available on YouTube.

    Refering to downloadsquad, in order for this to work, the owner of the copyrighted video will have to upload a copy to YouTube, and then Google’s machines go to work analyzing that file and making sure that nobody else has uploaded an exact duplicate.
