Whether you are an amateur blogger or a professional blogger, Blogger.com can serve as a good blogging platform. Aside from being free, a blog that is set up in Blogger.com is very easy to maintain. Here are the steps on how to start a blog in Blogger.com.

1. First, go their website: www.blogger.com. If you already have a Google account, use that to log in. If not, you would need to set up a Google account first.

2. If it is the first time that you are setting up a blog with Blogger, you would be asked to sign up for their service. It would be asking for your desired display name, which is what other people would see as your name.

3. You would then need to setup your blog. You would first write the name that you want for your blog to have. You would then need to come up with a blog address or the URL or your blog which is a blogspot.com subdomain. For instance, if you are planning to set up a blog about pregnancy and baby care, you could set your subdomain to be pregnancyandbabycareinfo.blogspot.com. Try to include your main keywords in the subdomain that you would be choosing so it would be as descriptive as possible.

4. You would then have to choose a template, which would determine the layout and physical appearance of your blog. Blogger.com offers a lot of templates. You could always see the preview of a template on your blog by clicking on the “Preview Template” links underneath each template thumbnail.

5. Once you have chosen your template, you are ready to start blogging. As you write your blog posts, make sure that you will be checking for grammar and spelling errors. Also make it a point that the posts are well-written and interesting. By doing these, you would be able to make sure that visitors would find your blog to be a valuable one, which is worth visiting regularly.

6. Once the layout and content of your blog is in place, you could then add affiliate links to it. Adding affiliate links is important if you would like to earn through your blog. There are many affiliate networks that offer various programs such as Cost-Per-Click (CPC), Cost-Per-Sale (CPS) and Cost-Per-Action (CPA). Some of the sites that offer these programs include Commission Junction, ClickBank, PayDotCom, Google’s AdSense, Adbrite, Yahoo Publisher Network, Bidvertiser, LinkShare and Click2Sell. You would just have to sign with these networks and you would be provided with affiliate links that you could add to the template of your blog in Blogger. If you would be using your Google AdSense affiliate link, you could just click on the link “Monetize” on the Blogger Dashboard. You can position it to be on your sidebar and posts, or just in your sidebar or just below each of your posts.

These are the steps on how to start a blog on Blogger.com and how to earn money from it. As you develop your blog and make ways to generate more traffic, you would eventually be able to make your blog more popular, earning more revenue, in turn.

This article aims to provide all the essential information on how to start a blog, turning a blogging newbie into a blogging guru.

Today, blogging is becoming more and more popular among individuals from all walks of life. Blogs primarily serve as web-based journals where people can publish their musings and opinions online but there are many people who also publish blogs to earn money. Blogs can be about anything: food, pets, business, finance, fashion, baby care or any subject wherein an author is an expert in or has interest in. If you are interested in starting your own personal or business blog, then read on. This article aims to provide all the essential information on how to start a blog, turning a blogging newbie into a blogging guru.

First off, you would need to choose whether you would be getting a free blog or a paid blog. A free blog would basically be one that you would get when you sign up with sites such as Blogger or WordPress. You do not have to pay for anything and you could just start blogging away about any topic that you had in mind. However, if you are planning to set up a business or if you are looking to earn from your blog, then it would be more advisable to get a paid blogging solution, as doing so offers a whole range of benefits. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of getting a free blog and a paid blog.

An obvious and possibly the only real advantage of getting a free blog with Blogger or WordPress would be that you do not have to pay for anything. You would also have access to some tools that you could use for blogging; however, this could be very limited. A main disadvantage of using a free blogging service would be that you would not have as much freedom to monetize your blog because all the advertisements that you can put on your blog would be controlled by the blog host, which could include the revenue that you should be getting from your ads. Another disadvantage would be that any page rank or the rank of your blog on search engines would be absorbed by your blog network. This could significantly affect the amount of visitors that you would be getting on your blog.

On the other hand, if you would be getting your own hosting solution for your blog, you would be able to have total control over each aspect of your blog, including the ad revenue. Although it would require money and more effort on your part, the advantages of using a paid blogging solution far outweigh the cons. For instance, if your site is able to receive a lot of traffic, the cost of hosting your blog would be covered a lot of times over by the ad revenue which it can potentially generate.

Another advantage of getting a self-hosted blog would be that you could add search value on to your site. Paid blog hosting services would also allow you to be as creative as you want to be since you can add your unique flair to your blog. Also, hosting your own blog is a lot more secure, so if you are setting up a blog for your business, you would be able to provide your clients with total online security. You would also be able to get your own domain name such as petfoodstore.com and not petfoodstore.blogspot.com. Having your own domain would make your blog or website a lot more unique and easier to recall, which could mean customers and visitors. If you feel that you might not have the knowledge and skills to host your own blog, you need not worry as there are a lot of web hosting companies which provide blog web hosting that even beginners can work with. There are even some companies that offer auto installation of a blog software like WordPress.

Once you have chosen between a free or paid blogging service, you can then choose a template. For free blogs, you can just choose from the list of available templates provided. If you are hosting your own blog, you can just download and install a pre-designed template. However, if you want to be more creative or if you want your blog to be more unique, you can edit the template by simple web design.

Once you have your layout and design set up, you can start writing the content of your blog. Here are a couple of tips that you might want to consider as you write your blog posts.

Avoid writing long paragraphs as nobody likes reading long things online. Limit your paragraphs to a couple of lines and then move on to the next. Try to use lists as much as possible like this list of tips.

-

Try to add relevant images to your posts to make them more interesting. However, make sure to keep the size of the images to just enough – not too big or not too small.

-

Do not forget to add tags to all your posts as it would be a good a way to add related keywords to them.

-

Try to post on a regular basis as this would generate more traffic in the long run. It would also be a good way to make your visitors come back for more.

After writing your content, you would then have to promote your blog in order to generate traffic. There are many ways to do this such as social bookmarking, guest blogging and commenting on other relevant blogs.

Starting a blog is actually quite easy once you have the basic knowledge about it. There are also a lot available guides and resources online which could help out beginners and advanced bloggers alike. Once you learn how to start a blog and you put in a lot of effort in it, you would surely be able to succeed whether you have a personal or a business blog.

That’s enough! Since it is now a requirement to write a post on Advertlets before you get paid, I have no choice but to comply with this “special” rule.

To date, Advertlets is owing me a whopping MYR 1,890 since last payment received in April 2008. I have talked to Josh Lim personally and submitted few tickets to Advertlets support and despite all these efforts, I was showered with promises that are never fulfilled.

Check out the figures below:-

If you are considering joining Advertlets as publisher, read this post and THINK TWICE!

I have made collection from RHB and CIMB before and it seems that CIMB is more efficient.
You can also collect your Adsense payment via Pos Malaysia as well but not all outlets provide Western Union services. Furthermore, the queue is usually unbearable!

All publishers outside US will generate lesser income due to the drop in US currency recently. I have feeling that it will drop further seeing that US market fared in past weeks.

Don’t worry US and Japan publishers as this move does not affect you. However, publishers outside US and Japan can start removing referral units promoting AdSense from your blog/website.

Google has decided to drop Adsense referrals scheme for publishers outside US and Japan with the reason that referral product has not performed as well as Google had hoped in these regions. It is a shame that Google has taken this step as Adsense referrals program is proven to be a good income generator for a lot of publishers. I am not affected as I did not participate in this program but I do feel that pain for those who spend a lot of their time promoting Adsense.

Meanwhile, users who are still eligible to participate will find their “bonuses” greatly reduced. Read more here…

About a year ago, as an experiment, we changed the pricing structure for AdSense referrals so that when a user you referred to the program earned $5 within 180 days of sign-up, you would also earn $5. When that publisher earned $100 within 180 days and removed all payment holds, you’d receive $250. We have decided to conclude this experiment and return to the original pricing structure. As a result, we’ll soon no longer be offering the $5 bonus or $2000 bonus, and the payout for referring a user who generates $100 with AdSense in the first 180 days will return to $100.

Seems that Google is getting less generous these days .. and let’s hope that they will not do something “silly” to the PPC program.

I was visiting my blog on Jan 5th and was surprised that it redirected to another website, adbaaz.com. I did a quick check and found that as soon as my blog starting to load the Advertlets script, it triggered the redirection. Afraid it might affect my blog’s traffic and earning, I removed ALL Advertets scripts from my blog and true enough, it solves the problem.

As I was not in Malaysia that day, I do not have the luxury of time to investigate the cause of the redirection until today.

So what happened?
According to Josh Lim

A complication in the renewal process caused the Advertlets.com domain to expire, and caused issues for bloggers with our ads installed, which made their blogs redirect to a placeholder page. It was not our intent to do so. Advertlets.com blog users were unable to login to their Advertlets accounts and access the website as well.

This simple mistake causes a sharp drop in my earning on my other website because it serves other ad programs as well. But I am glad it was sorted out now.

What is Entrecard?
Entrecard is your Internet Business Card which you can use to advertise on any blog in the network for FREE!

Don’t be mislead by the word “FREE” .. it just means that you do not have to fork out money to advertise on other blogs but instead you will pay using Entrecard credits. So it is not entirely FREE as it claimed but it is a fair deal since a lot of people are reluctant to pay to advertise.

You cannot buy Entrecard credits, you have to earn it by visiting blogs and dropping your card for other bloggers.

How are credits earned?

You earn 1 credit every time you drop your card for someone else.

You earn 1 credit every time someone else drops their card for you.

You earn credits every time someone advertises on your widget.

Once you have accumulated enough Entrecard credits, you can apply to advertise on someone’s blog. Blog owners will have to approve your application before your Entrecard will display on their blogs. However, they also has the right to reject your application which they may find inappropriate.

How can I earn money from this program?
From your Entrecard dashboard, you will see a “Send Credit” link which allows you to transfer your credits to another user. Therefore, you can sell your credits to another Entrecard users for real money. The cost of each Entrecard credit?? .. it is up to you.

Out of curiosity, I clicked on the next button and the existing text link ads will be replaced with new ads without refreshing the page (Ajax style).

I guess it is still in testing phase because I have only seen it once so far… and I managed to take a screenshot of the ad units.

I am not sure if users will click on these buttons to view more ads unless they are really really really bored with the content on your blog/website.
