Google has updated the stable version of its Chrome browser - Chrome 9. This release introduces many new features including WebGL, Chrome Instant, and the Chrome Web Store.

WebGL is a new technology which brings hardware-accelerated 3D graphics to the browser without the need to install any 3rd party software. If you have not seen how WebGL works on browser, download Chrome 9 and check out the demos here.

Those who know what Google Instant is should roughly know how Chrome Instant works. As you begin typing the web address on the URL bar, Chrome auto-suggests web pages that you visit frequently.

The Chrome Web Store is now open to all Chrome users that reside in United States. Chrome Web Store is an online marketplace where you can download thousands of free and paid apps for Google Chrome. According to Chrome blog, a link to the Chrome Web Store can be found on New Tab page, along with two sample apps. (If you don’t use these sample apps, they will automatically disappear after some time).

Firefox 4 beta is now available for download and it features a new user interface, faster start up time, multitouch support for Windows 7...

Firefox 4 beta is now available for download and it features a new user interface, multitouch support for Windows 7, improvement in protecting your privacy, support for HTML5 video standards and WebM format, 3D graphic rendering with WebGL, Audio API, crash protection and more.

In addition to the above mentioned features, users should expect a much faster start up time, page-load as well as huge performance enhancements, thanks to the inclusion of their brand new JägerMonkey JavaScript engine.

Firefox 4 beta also comes with Feedback Add-on (in the upper right corner) to encourage users to submit their feedback to Mozilla for further improvement. If you have it installed on your computer, like it or hate it, please let them know.

We tried to install it on our Mac but it seems that a lot of add-on are not supported at the moment – will wait till the release of the final version then.

Below are some feedback we gathered from the internet on Firefox 4 so far..

Mashable

In our brief tests, the Flash performance in Firefox 4 Beta 10 appears to have improved in Mac OS X. Video plays better and consumes fewer resources. Likewise, most of our add-ons and plugins were compatible with this release.

LiewCF

Loading Facebook.com is about 1 second faster than Google Chrome. The memory usage is well kept under 300MB, while Google Chrome is a memory monster! I like Firefox 4 and I will try it for a longer time to see if Firefox will return to be my permanent default browser or not.

After I voiced my disappointment with Firefox 2, Mozilla responded by releasing Firefox 3 Beta 1 two days later on 22nd November. Joking.. in regardless of the existence of my post, it will still be released anyway.

Firefox 3, which can be downloaded from Mozilla’s servers, is available in more than 20 languages. I have read some reviews on Firefox 3 (here and here) and Firefox 3 receives nothing but praise from the reviewers.

Among the “good” things we will be expecting from Firefox 3 are listed below:-

Loads of new features

Outstanding improvement to the user experience

Provide a wide range of improvements to performance, stability, and security

With Firefox 3 stable version is expected for release on December or latest by January, I would suggest to you to wait instead of trying out the beta version.

I am ardent fan of Firefox browser and been heavily promoting it ever since I started using it few years ago. Things went well and my browsing experience with Firefox is great.. until I upgraded to the latest Firefox 2 once it was make available for public.

Since then, I encountered a serious degradation of performance which includes:-

Frequent hangs when switching to another tab

Longer loading time compares to Firefox 1.5

Occasionally send CPU usage to 99%

At first, I thought that it may due the extensions that I have installed but I do not encounter these problems when I am using Firefox 1.5 installed with the same extensions. In the meantime, until they solve the issue, I will re-install Firefox 1.5 on my PC. Hopefully, the upcoming Firefox 3 will offer a huge improvements over its predecessor. Still a Firefox fan though.

Do you encounter similar problem? Post your comment here!
