Skype has just released version 3.0 for iPhone and it enables video calling over WiFi and 3G data connections. Skype users can now call from their iPhone to another iPhone or desktop users, be they running on Mac or Windows.

What’s New on latest version of Skype iPhone app:-

• Make Skype to Skype video calls on WiFi and 3G
• Call Skype desktop users (Mac OS X or Windows) and other iPhone users.
• Two-way video calls supported on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen.
• Receive only video supported on iPad and iPod touch 3rd gen, with no camera.
• Make video calls in portrait and landscape.
• Skype video calling requires iOS 4.0 or above.

It is definitely a better alternative to Facetime (beta) which only support video calling on WiFi. (I still can’t call my iMac using my jailbroken iPhone 4)

Viber Media has just released an app that allow you make free phone calls to other iPhone users that have Viber installed. When using Viber, you can expect a better sound quality if compare to regular call which I think is a bold claim. Only reviews submitted by users will confirm that statement.

1. Verizon Mobile Wifi (USA) / Digi Mobile Wifi (Malaysia)

Both Verizon and Digi will be selling a device that allow your iPad to connect to a 3G connection. It will cost you around US $150 for the device and a data plan with the mobile operator. You can also connnect your laptop, netbook and iPod to it at the same time. Cool stuff.

2. Jailbroken iPhone (OS 3.1+) with MyWi app

Although Steve Jobs confirmed that iPad won’t support iPhone tethering, actually, it is always possible to turn your iPhone into a WiFi hotspot. Simply jailbreak your iPhone, make sure it is running on firmware 3.1.2 and above, install MyWi app through Cydia (only US $9.99) on your iPhone and that’s it!
